The Royal Sovereign
Bowls Club is a flat outdoor bowling club being the result of a merger in 2006
of the Princes Park Bowls Club and the Royal Parade and Redoubt Bowling Club.
It takes its name from the Royal Sovereign Lightship which is out to sea near
Eastbourne. The previous clubs both have a very long and proud tradition, the
Redoubt men's club being founded in 1909.
The Club is affiliated to
Bowls England, the Sussex County Bowling Association and the Sussex County
Women's Bowling Association.
Outdoor Facilities
The bowls club is situated at the
bowling greens in Princes Park, Eastbourne, and has 12 rinks on 2 greens. There
is seating for non-bowlers and spectators around both of the greens. These
greens are maintained to a very high standard by the club's own greenkeeper,
and are open daily from the end of April until the end of September each
year.
Indoor Facilities
The brick built clubhouse has
sufficient accommodation, refreshment facilities and both ladies'and men's
changing rooms to welcome and entertain visiting teams. Soft drinks and
alcoholic drinks are available.
Membership
The club has approximately 100 members (some
being County players) and also some 30 Social members. We welcome beginners as
well as those more experienced bowlers, and we have many members who are able
to give tuition and coaching.
Our members regularly
play in mixed matches as well as men's and ladies matches. There is a club
roll-up every Tuesday and Friday morning, as well as club competitions and
local league fixtures.
In addition, we regularly host the
Eastbourne 'Open' Tournaments.
Visitors and Touring Sides
We welcome day visitors and
touring sides. To discuss arrangements for a touring side, please contact our
